Candle Care Tips: How to Make Your Candles Last Longer

Taking care of your candles ensures they burn evenly, last longer, and provide the best scent experience. Whether you’re using soy candles, beeswax candles, or paraffin candles, following these tips will help maximize their lifespan.

1. Trim the Wick Before Each Burn

  • Always trim your candle wick to ¼ inch before lighting.
  • This prevents excess soot and an uneven flame.
  • Use wick trimmers or scissors for best results.

2. Let the Wax Pool Reach the Edges

  • The first burn is the most important!
  • Allow your candle to burn until the entire top layer of wax melts (usually 1-3 hours).
  • This prevents tunneling, where wax builds up around the edges.

3. Avoid Burning for Too Long

  • Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Long burns can cause the wick to “mushroom,” leading to smoke and uneven burning.

4. Keep Candles Away from Drafts

  • Wind, fans, and air vents can cause an uneven burn and flickering flames.
  • Always place candles in a draft-free area for a steady burn.

5. Use a Snuffer to Extinguish the Flame

  • Blowing out a candle can create smoke and spread soot.
  • Instead, use a candle snuffer to safely extinguish the flame.

6. Store Your Candles Properly

  • Keep candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Heat can cause candles to melt or discolor.
